Welcome to Rhapsody

Rhapsody is a collection of Sunday afternoon Tea Dances/Freestyles and Workshops normally twice a month where carefully selected music tracks allow dancers to indulge in more expressive dancing.

Whether it's Modern Blues, Argentinian Tango, Smooth Jive or any other dance style, the 4 hours of music will encourage dancers to express their musicality in any way they feel like doing so.

In addition, the Rhapsody Plus events include a 2 hour Workshop before the 4 hour Tea Dance/Freestyles, and are held approximately once a month.

The Workshops Fundamentals of Modern Blues, Advanced Modern Blues, Argentine Tango and may also include special Workshops from guest instructors.

The Fundamentals Workshops are suitable for beginners to Modern Blues as well as offering plenty of substance for improvers. The Advanced Modern Blues Workshops require the dancer to have some proficiency in Modern Blues. The Argentine Tango Workshops range from beginner to more experienced levels and this will be indicated on the Workshop description.

All events must be booked in advance.

Note : These events are not Traditional Blues, sometimes known as American Blues, dancing events and although the music played includes some Blues music, it also embraces many other genres.

About Rhapsody

Rhapsody ('ræpsodi')

Definitions, noun, (plural) -rhapsodies

1. a musical composition of irregular form having an improvisatory character.

2. an expression of ecstatic enthusiasm.

3. A state of elated bliss; ecstasy.

A rhapsody in music is a one-movement work that is episodic yet integrated, free-flowing in structure, featuring a range of highly contrasted moods, colour, and tonality. An air of spontaneous inspiration and a sense of improvisation make it freer in form than a set of variations.

Rhapsody has evolved out of a desire to have Modern Blues dancing available in the Southern UK area on a regular basis.

The music played is atmospheric and evocative and is chosen to enable dancers to express their musicality.

Note : These events are not Traditional Blues dancing events and although the music played includes some Blues music, it also embraces many other genres.

Workshops are normally 12:00 - 2:00pm. Nuevo Tango music from 2:00pm - 2:30pm. Tea dance/Freestyles from 2:30pm - 6:30pm

Events are normally at the Minstead Village Hall, Minstead, Lyndhurst,Hants SO43 7FX
